Kid's Summer Clothes Drive

The housing crisis in Whatcom County is no secret, and it's nothing new. The world has been slowly getting back to (somewhat) normal, but the effects of the pandemic, the economy and the lack of affordable housing is continuing to fuel hardships state wide.

With the seasons shifting from cold winter months to longer, warmer days, the Rick Moore Group is also shifting energy from coat drives to women and children's clothing in support of Lydia Place.

Established in 1989, Lydia Place is a non-profit who's mission reads: "every family deserves a home." Shouldn't that be everyone's (especially if you're in real estate) mantras? This cornerstone to Bellingham has helped support hundreds of families experiencing homelessness, and has helped them avoid living on the streets.

Domestic violence scenarios are common amidst the people looking for refuge at Lydia Place. Women and children fleeing from toxic households and many of them showing up only with the clothes on their backs. Having to choose between a violent home or homelessness should never be the only two options.

I know - as you're reading this you're probably thinking, "Geez Kelly, what a depressing read." But this is where we can change the narrative. We at the Rick Moore Group ask that you join us in making the lives of these families better; to be the kind neighbor, the true heart of Bellingham and help those seeking support from Lydia Place.

Our first event is Saturday, June 11th at Greene's Corner from 1-4pm

We will be hosting a social and collecting donations. We will be collecting women's clothing and children's clothing (all ages) for the upcoming summer and fall seasons. Adjacently, we are always available to come pick up donations instead - please provide us your contact info here, and one of our team members will reach out to you for a pick up.

Let's keep the heart of Bellingham alive! It's up to us to show our compassion as humans and change the narrative for those experiencing homelessness due to domestic violence.
